Last month was a very successful month for Alay Soler of Omaha. So successful that he has been honored as the Pitcher of the Month in the Sub League 2.
Soler shut down league hitters in fine fashion, rounding out May with an impressive 5-0 mark and 1.36 ERA in 6 starts with 41 strikeouts in 46.1 innings.
In 2008, Soler has a 7-1 mark in 11 starts with a 2.06 ERA. He has given up 54 hits in 83 innings, struck out 74 and issued 19 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .187 batting average against him. |

The Louisville Devil Dogs owe Fernando Nieve a lot for his performance this past month. One of the league's most dominant starters in May, Nieve tore up the opposition with a fine 4-1 mark on his way to the Sub League 1 Pitcher of the Month award.
"When you're pitching this well," analyzed Nieve, "it's a lot easier to come to the park. I don't judge my performance by the stats, I judge it -- the team judges it -- by the score of the game. I could say I'm tossing electric stuff right now and that would go over big. But if I toss that same stuff -- exact same pitch selection and location -- and they bang me around tomorrow, I was awful. That's the way baseball is."
It was Nieve who did the banging in May as he tossed up 40 strikeouts in 41.2 innings, holding opponents to a .189 average and posting a 1.73 ERA.
This year Nieve has made 11 starts, thrown 80 innings, fanned 78 batters and walked 12. His won-lost record is 8-2 with a 1.24 ERA. |

Marvin's Kendry Morales had a productive May and topped it off by winning the Batter of the Month citation from the Sub League 2.
The 24-year-old first baseman stood out at the plate with a .340 batting average, 7 home runs, 28 RBIs and 17 runs scored.
Presently Morales is batting .366 with 12 home runs and 51 RBIs. He has played in 51 games and scored 33 times. |
