| Breaking News | | Friday, May 25th, 2007: Vazquez 5-5 Against Mutiny
It seemed that Baton Rouge second baseman Ramon Vazquez could do no wrong today, but it still didn't come out right. The Shrikes still dropped the game to the Mutiny by the score of 7-6. He did all he could, rapping out 5 hits in 5 at-bats, but in the end, Raleigh prevailed in the ballgame at Baton Rouge Grounds.
"I felt real good today, but my best just wasn't enough. We didn't play well enough to win. I saw the ball well and just wanted to make good contact and put the ball in play. The balls just fell in for base hits. Some days they do that," Vazquez explained in the postgame press interview.
R. Vazquez singled in the 1st, singled in the 4th, doubled in the 6th, doubled in the 8th and hit a two-run home run off L. Gorrindo in the 9th.
In this current campaign Vazquez is hitting at a .304 clip with 4 home runs and 20 RBIs. |
 | Friday, April 20th, 2007: Boone and Lopez Suspended 9 Games For Brawl
It was quite a row yesterday at Baton Rouge Grounds. The Shrikes Aaron Boone and the Wombats Javier Lopez backed up their angry words with a few shoves and a few swings. Then both dugouts raced onto the field and got involved in the fracas. When it was over, only Boone and Lopez were ejected.
As expected they were informed by the league office that they would each have to serve 9-game suspensions for their inappropriate actions.
This season Boone is batting at a .309 clip with no home runs and 6 RBIs.
Checking out his season stats to date, Lopez has no saves in 5 relief appearances with a 0-0 record and 3.00 ERA.

The Shrikes may be close to working out a deal to trade Scott Sauerbeck. That's the latest news from the rumor mill. Sauerbeck, the 34-year-old reliever, has said privately that he will not balk at a trade to another team.
