Breaking News |  | Monday, May 14th, 2007: Sub League 2's Best Batter Announced A battle-tested Nomar Garciaparra declared war on opposing pitchers last week, attacking the ball like the well-schooled veteran he is. Today the 33-year-old Hialeah first baseman collected the Sub League 2 Player of the Week Award.
He wrapped up the week with a .385 average, 10 hits in 26 at-bats, 3 home runs, 8 RBIs and 10 runs scored.
This season Garciaparra has banged out 14 hits in 38 at-bats for a .368 average with 3 home runs. He is getting on base at a .429 pace and his totals also include 8 RBIs and 12 runs scored. |  | Sunday, May 13th, 2007: Backe Whitewashes Marvin Brandon Backe humbled the Marvin Stampede today at Radicals Ballpark. In the 4-0 shutout win, he yielded 3 hits, fanned 10 and walked 0 to pace the Hialeah Radicals to victory.
So far this season, Backe has logged a 1-3 record with a 4.67 ERA. He has started 9 games, hurled 54 innings and registered 55 strikeouts and 14 walks. |  | Wednesday, May 9th, 2007: Radicals Vargas Blanks Dreadnoughts The Garland Dreadnoughts met their match today in Hialeah hurler Claudio Vargas. He kept them guessing the whole game and spun a 5-hit shutout.
"He just worked us over," the Garland skipper said. "He probably didn't even take a shower after the game. I don't think he even worked up a sweat. They could probably pitch him again tomorrow."
In the 1-0 victory Vargas whiffed 6 and gave up no walks.
Vargas has gone 3-1 this season with an ERA of 0.51 and 37 strikeouts in 52.2 innings pitched.
