| | Friday, May 11th, 2007: Thompson Fashions Shutout Against Guerillas On the hill Brad Thompson stood out and was the master of the moment as he blanked Akron 4-0.
At bat the Guerillas floundered, fizzled and failed to score.
"His fastball moves and he mixes in the slider," the Akron manager said. "He kept us off-balance."
The Santa Ana pitcher hurled a 1-hit shutout in an exceptional effort. He gave up 1 walk and had 5 strikeouts.
"I felt good," Thompson said. "That's probably the best fastball I've had all season. I was able to locate it pretty well. They were super-aggressive, which helped me."
Thompson has posted a 2-1 record in 2007 with a 2.28 ERA. Teams are hitting .208 against him and he has rung up 24 strikeouts in 43.1 innings. | | Sunday, April 22nd, 2007: Ouch! Joe Unknown Shelved by Injury The doctors have spoken and Joe Unknown of the Akron Guerillas didn't like what he heard. The 25-year-old starting pitcher is almost certainly gone for the rest of the year and depending on his progress could miss some of next season as well. Unknown sustained his season-ending injury during the Chesapeake Windstorm game yesterday at Guerillas Ballpark. He had to leave the game because he hurt himself while throwing a pitch. Today the Akron medical staff reported Unknown had a torn bicep muscle and would be absent from the lineup for at least 13 months.
