| Breaking News | | Sunday, June 1st, 2008: NL Choice for Batter of the Month is Howard
The Batter of the Month honoree for May in the National is Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard.
He showed no mercy as he finished the month with a .389 batting average, 16 home runs, 41 RBIs, and 31 runs scored.
In 2008 Howard has produced 57 hits in 176 at-bats for a .324 average with 21 home runs and gotten on base at a .443 clip. |
| Monday, May 19th, 2008: NL Player of the Week Named
Ryan Howard of the Philadelphia Phillies has just enjoyed one of the better weeks of his career. That fact was not lost on National officials, who named him Player of the Week.
Howard logged a .533 batting average for the Philadelphia Phillies, racking up 8 RBIs and 3 home runs.
This season Howard is swinging the bat at a .309 pace. He has hit 14 home runs and scored 38 times, while driving in 39. His on-base percentage is .429 and he has played in 38 games. |
| Thursday, May 15th, 2008: Big Day with Bat: Utley 5-5
Chase Utley of the Phillies was unstoppable in today's 11-1 victory over the New York Mets at Citizens Bank Park. He battered them for 5 hits in 5 at-bats.
"Boy, I was on the mark today," said the Philadelphia second baseman after the game. "I could see the ball real well. It's a great feeling to do this. And besides, 5-5 won't hurt your batting average like 0-5 will."
C. Utley singled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
In 2008 Utley is batting .342 with 2 home runs and 5 RBIs. |
