In the latest churning of the rumor mill, reports indicate that 31-year-old starting pitcher Kris Benson of the Chesapeake Windstorm could be on the trading block. While the player refused to comment, the team did not outright deny the claims. "If it'll help this team, we'll make a move," said one team official. | | Tuesday, August 1st, 2006: Chesapeake's Starter Receives SL1 Pitching Award Capping off a whirlwind month in which he went 4-1 with a 1.22 ERA, Luke Hudson was selected as July's Sub League 1 Pitcher of the Month today. Reporters caught up with the elated Chesapeake starter as he left the clubhouse.
"I know it's difficult for pitchers -- when you have a bad start or two, people start wondering if you've lost it. Then you ride stretches like this one for all you can. You find it easier to come to the park every day because know you're contributing to the club, not just waiting for your turn in the rotation to make up for your last start."
Luke Hudson definitely contributed to the club. He had 6 starts, throwing 44.1 innings, striking out 35, and holding the opposition to a .189 average.
Checking out his stats for the season, Hudson has notched 11 wins and 4 losses in 22 starts, 1.78 ERA and struck out 130 batters in 156.2 innings. | | | Team Information | Record overall | 29-28, .509 PCT | Position in Division | 4th, 13.0 GB | Record at home | 17-12, .586 PCT | Record on the road | 12-16, .429 PCT | Record in X-inning games | 5-4, .556 PCT | Record in one-run games | 6-9, .400 PCT | Record versus LHP | 5-4, .556 PCT | Record versus RHP | 24-24, .500 PCT | Record last 10 games | 3-7, .300 PCT | Record in April | 15-13, .536 PCT | Record in May | 14-15, .483 PCT |
