Breaking News |  | Sunday, June 1st, 2008: Newman Honored by American Jason Newman's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Kansas City second baseman has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.
In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.
During the month he hit .333 with 7 doubles, no triples and 2 home runs. Newman also scored 11 times and drove in 9 runs.
In 42 games this season Newman has batted at a .316 pace with 48 hits and 2 home runs. |  | Sunday, May 11th, 2008: Kansas City's Helton Injured The Royals received bad news this morning. Todd Helton will miss 4 weeks due to a strained medial collateral ligament. In the Kansas City-Oakland game he sustained the injury while running the bases. "I'm disappointed more than anything," he told reporters later in the day. "You can't help your team on the bench," Helton sighed. "I'll do the rehab work and hope for a quick recovery."
Helton is presently batting .317 with 3 home runs, 12 runs scored and 13 RBIs. His OBP is .435. |  | Sunday, May 4th, 2008: Bad News for Kansas City, Greinke Injured Kansas City fans held their breath as Zack Greinke left yesterday's Anaheim-Royals contest with an injury. After the game, the team's medical staff said that the 24-year-old starting pitcher had suffered a torn back muscle while throwing a pitch. It's estimated that he will be out 4 months.
So far this season, Greinke has logged a 3-0 record with a 1.39 ERA.
