Breaking News | | Saturday, May 24th, 2008: Rodriguez Torches Pirates for 5 Hits 5 hits in 5 at-bats. It doesn't happen every day and when it does, it's exciting. Today Ivan Rodriguez of the Chicago White Sox had a sensational 5-5 game against Pittsburgh at U.S. Cellular Field. He rifled base hits all over the ballpark, but it didn't pay off in a victory. The Pirates took the game 10-3.
In the postgame press conference Rodriguez joked, "Heck, that's a week's worth of hitting for me and I did it all in one day. I guess I can take the rest of the week off... Right, Skip?" His manager retorted half-smilingly, "Only if we win the game, son... only if we win the ballgame. That's what they pay us to do, you know."
I. Rodriguez singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.
This season Rodriguez is hitting at a .248 pace with 6 home runs, 18 RBIs and has scored 14 times. | | Thursday, May 22nd, 2008: Betemit to Miss 2 Weeks It took the Chicago team doctor a while to realize it, but shortstop Wilson Betemit won't simply play through a strained rib cage muscle after he got hurt colliding with a player at a base in today's Royals-White Sox game. At first, it looked like Betemit might be back as early as tomorrow, but now the prognosis isn't quite so good; he's expected to miss at least 2 weeks.
This year Betemit is hitting .223 with 29 hits, 9 home runs, 26 RBIs and has scored 15 runs. | | Sunday, May 11th, 2008: Twins Liriano No-Hits White Sox Francisco Liriano of the Twins was standing behind the mound when the scoreboard caught his eye, confirming what he already knew... he was one out from a no-hitter. He froze... for a couple of seconds he didn't move.
"This hitter is the last one," Liriano told himself. Then he collected himself and finished one of his greatest performances ever.
The Minnesota hurler no-hit the Chicago White Sox 7-0 at Hubert H Humphrey Metrodome, finishing with 0 walks and 15 strikeouts, facing only 28 batters.
Liriano admitted to the press, "I knew from the fifth inning on it was a no-hitter, but really didn't worry about it until the last out. I just wanted to win the game until then... then I wanted the no-hitter, too."
So far in 2008 Liriano has compiled a 5-1 record with a 2.95 ERA. | | Injuries | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | SS Wilson Betemit | strained rib cage muscle | 4 days | 6 day(s) left | 2B Tadahito Iguchi | torn back muscle | 2 months | 51 day(s) left (60-day DL) | | Team Information | Record overall | 18-31, .367 PCT | Position in Division | 5th, 12.0 GB | Record at home | 11-13, .458 PCT | Record on the road | 7-18, .280 PCT | Record in X-inning games | 2-3, .400 PCT | Record in one-run games | 4-6, .400 PCT | Record versus LHP | 9-9, .500 PCT | Record versus RHP | 9-22, .290 PCT | Record last 10 games | 5-5, .500 PCT | Record in April | 6-13, .316 PCT | Record in May | 12-18, .400 PCT |
