| Breaking News | | Friday, June 1st, 2007: Villa Is SL2's Best Pitcher in May
Over the past month Manuel Villa has turned quite a few heads. He's young, talented and able to pitch with the established arms in the Sub League 2. He proved all that and now he's been named May's Pitcher of the Month.
The rookie for the Oelwein Monumentals posted 5-0 mark and a 1.25 ERA. In 6 starts he tossed 43.1 innings, permitted 28 hits and fanned 39 batters.
Villa in 2007 has fashioned a 9-0 mark, 2.32 ERA and thrown 81.1 innings in 12 starts. Opposing clubs are batting .214 against him. |
 | Friday, May 18th, 2007: Howard at His Best, Whips Monumentals
Tom Howard put a hex on Oelwein in a sparkling 5-0 shutout performance, mesmerizing them on a 6-hit gem.
"I feel good physically," he said. "Everything's comfortable. You should pitch well when that's the case."
It was anything but comfortable for Oelwein.
"Howard used his changeup very well, very effectively," the opposing manager said. "He threw it in hitter's counts."
The Henderson Moths hurler fanned 8 and walked 1.
This season Howard has worked 52.2 innings with 33 strikeouts en route to a 1-6 record and a 7.52 ERA. |
 | Saturday, May 12th, 2007: Season Possibly Over for Joe Unknown
Oelwein has lost reliever Joe Unknown for at least 7-8 months. He was hurt in a game against the Blue Hens while throwing a pitch and sustained a torn rotator cuff muscle. His doctors said Unknown will probably be out the rest of the year.
