| Breaking News | | Sunday, July 16th, 2006: Jason Hirsh Injured, Out for Year
Jason Hirsh of the Ions just might have to call it quits for the season. The 24-year-old Roland starting pitcher received a possible season-ending injury against the Elmwood Park Palisades recently at Ions Ballpark. Hirsh suffered bone chips in his elbow while throwing a pitch. The Ions medical staff said he could be out quite some time, as much as 8 months.
Hirsh has made 12 starts this season, posting 5 wins and 4 losses. Opposing clubs are batting .211 against him and he has 53 strikeouts in 73.2 innings with a 1.95 ERA.

 | Tuesday, July 11th, 2006: Huckaby 5-5 Against Ions
Ken Huckaby really sizzled at the plate today. In a game played at Wichita Grounds, the Wichita catcher blistered the Roland Ions for 5 hits in 5 at-bats to pace his club to a 13-4 victory.
"Huckaby was too tough to get out today," the Ions skipper said in his postgame interview. "No matter what we threw him, he hit it. And he hit some good pitches, too."
K. Huckaby hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off J. Unknown in the 7th.
For the season, Huckaby is hitting at a .275 clip with 7 home runs, 35 RBIs and has scored 44 runs. He has 87 hits, 32 walks and a .340 on-base percentage.

The 22-game hitting streak of Omar Quintanilla has come to an end. The Kendall shortstop went 0-for-4 today in the 3-2 loss to the Roland Ions at Ballpark of Kendall.
Quintanilla is currently hitting at a .308 pace with 1 home run and 9 RBIs.
