The Madison Swans were dealt a serious blow when the team learned that Joe Unknown was likely to be out for 7 months after he injured himself throwing a pitch in today's game against the Greensboro Shipwrecks. A round of tests by the team doctors revealed the injury to be a ruptured disc. Upon learning of their diagnosis, the Madison manager told the press, "As you all know, we can't control injuries--they are a part of the game. We just have to do the best we can until Joe is back in action."

| Sunday, July 30th, 2006: Unknown Career Ended by Injury
The expression on his face said it all when starting pitcher Joe Unknown was injured throwing a pitch today in a game at Madison Fields against Greensboro. You could tell that this was no minor injury. Unknown was examined quickly by the team doctor and immediately rushed to the local hospital. After several tests, the diagnosis was a torn labrum, and in this case, it means his career is over.
The Madison Swans issued the following statement: "It is with great sadness that we see Joe ending his career due to injury. He was a great competitor and teammate and will be missed by the Swans organization."
Unknown is 24 years old.
