Breaking News | | Friday, July 28th, 2006: Freeman Raps Saint Paul for 5 Hits Today at Sapphires Ballpark Choo Freeman put on an impressive display of hitting -- the Scottsdale center fielder tagged Saint Paul pitching for 5 hits in 7 at-bats, but his teammates were unable to capitalize on his batting spree and lost the game to the Caravan by the score of 7-5.
"Hey, the loss takes some of the joy out of it, but I'll take it. 5-7 ain't bad in any league."
Despite the terrific performance, Freeman remained somewhat somber. "Sure, I'm happy with my performance today," he was quoted as saying in the locker room, "But all that really matters in this game is that number in the win column. We just didn't get it done today."
C. Freeman hit an RBI double in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 7th, grounded out in the 9th, flied out in the 12th and singled in the 14th.
Freeman has a .226 average and a .296 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 74 hits, 6 home runs and driven in 36 runs. | | Sunday, July 16th, 2006: Penn Dominates Defenders in Shutout Before the game Hayden Penn liked his chances and his instincts proved to be right. In a superb outing the Caravan pitcher whitewashed the Colorado Springs Defenders 1-0.
Penn said in the clubhouse afterward, "I just had a feeling it was going to be my day. My control was awesome. I could throw my curveball even when I was behind in the count."
The Saint Paul starter held Colorado Springs scoreless, giving up 3 hits while registering 7 strikeouts and issuing no walks.
"We didn't have very many good at-bats," the Defenders manager said in his postgame interview.
"When that happens, you usually lose."
So far this season Penn has a record of 2-3 with 42 strikeouts and 5 walks in 57.1 innings and a 2.35 ERA. | | Monday, July 3rd, 2006: Will Saint Paul Trade Unhappy Closer?
