Breaking News | | Sunday, July 16th, 2006: Penn Dominates Defenders in Shutout Before the game Hayden Penn liked his chances and his instincts proved to be right. In a superb outing the Caravan pitcher whitewashed the Colorado Springs Defenders 1-0.
Penn said in the clubhouse afterward, "I just had a feeling it was going to be my day. My control was awesome. I could throw my curveball even when I was behind in the count."
The Saint Paul starter held Colorado Springs scoreless, giving up 3 hits while registering 7 strikeouts and issuing no walks.
"We didn't have very many good at-bats," the Defenders manager said in his postgame interview.
"When that happens, you usually lose."
So far this season Penn has a record of 2-3 with 42 strikeouts and 5 walks in 57.1 innings and a 2.35 ERA. | | Tuesday, June 27th, 2006: Unknown Hurt, Out for Year The season is apparently over for Joe Unknown. The Colorado Springs Defenders medical staff informed the club that the catcher will be out at least 11 months with a torn posterior cruciate ligament. Unknown was hurt in the game against Lubbock while running the bases. The doctors did not think he would recover prior to the end of the season.
