The Boston Red Sox got a great effort from Andy Pettitte as the 35-year-old hurler tossed a complete-game 8-0 shutout over the Texas Rangers. He struck out 4 while allowing 2 hits and walking 2.
To this point in the season, Pettitte shows a 7-0 record, 12 starts, 86.2 innings, 49 strikeouts and a 2.39 ERA. |
 | Wednesday, May 28th, 2008: Guthrie Tosses Shutout Against Boston
Oakland starter Jeremy Guthrie really did a number on the Red Sox today, shutting them out 3-0 on 4 hits in a complete game victory. He issued no walks and had 4 strikeouts.
In his postgame comments, the Boston manager said, "We didn't have good at-bats. I don't make excuses, but when we were playing the game, our energy didn't show. That comes from either extremely good pitching or extremely lousy hitting... seeing as our team has a bunch of pretty good hitters, I have to tip my cap to Jeremy... he did an outstanding job today."
This season Guthrie has worked 34.2 innings with 20 strikeouts en route to a 3-2 record and a 2.60 ERA. |
| Tuesday, May 27th, 2008: Red Sox Ramirez to Miss Year
A blow for Manny Ramirez today -- team doctors confirmed he will miss 4-5 months with a torn back muscle. Ramirez suffered the injury running the bases. Although officials from the Boston Red Sox are confident he'll make a full recovery, doubts will persist about Ramirez's ability to return fully fit with an injury of this nature.
Ramirez is presently hitting at a .278 pace with 9 home runs and 34 RBIs. He has played in 47 games and scored 20 times. |
