| Breaking News |  | Tuesday, May 27th, 2008: League KO's Orioles-Devil Rays Players with 12-Game Suspensions
Baseball officials have suspended two players for "inappropriate and aggressive conduct" in yesterday's Baltimore-Tampa Bay contest at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. The Orioles Magglio Ordonez and the Devil Rays Jon Lieber will have to sit out 12 games for their part in the brawl.
This season Ordonez is hitting .358 with 67 hits, 8 home runs, 37 RBIs, scored 38 runs and played in 46 games.
In 2008 thus far, Lieber has tossed 40.2 innings in 8 starts, fanned 12 batters, walked 12 and put up a 6.64 ERA with 1 win and 3 losses. |
 | Friday, May 23rd, 2008: Devil Rays Blank St. Louis, Shields Winner
In an impressive outing, James Shields whitewashed the St. Louis Cardinals 4-0.
"I'm getting a lot more downward movement instead of side to side. That side-to-side stuff can get hit a long way," said Shields, who is throwing with more of an overhand motion.
"It's not rocket science. It was just a little adjustment, but that's all it took."
The Tampa Bay hurler held St. Louis scoreless, allowed 5 hits, chalked up 8 strikeouts and yielded 2 walks.
Checking out his stats for the season, Shields has registered 5 wins and 3 losses in 10 starts, 3.29 ERA and struck out 48 batters in 68.1 innings. |
| Sunday, May 4th, 2008: League Suspends Crawford
Carl Crawford was suspended by the league for 3 games for "inappropriate conduct on the field," stemming from an altercation during a game with the New York Yankees yesterday at Tropicana Field. The Tampa Bay left fielder refused to leave the field for several minutes after being ejected by the home plate umpire over a third-strike call. His manager finally convinced him to leave the field, but had to step between him and the umpire several times.
Devil Rays officials told the press Crawford was not available for comment after the game.
So far this season, Crawford has recorded a .333 batting average with 33 hits, 4 home runs, 19 RBIs, 16 runs scored and a .365 OBP. |
