Adrian Gonzalez of the Padres had a terrific 5-hit game today, really socking it to the Chicago Cubs, but his team didn't win the game.
In the clubhouse after the 13-10 loss, he moaned to the press, "Hey, I don't want to sound ungrateful, but something is missing here. When you have a great game you should win the game, too."
And he definitely had an unforgettable day in the batter's box, ripping out 5 hits in 5 at-bats.
The manager for the Padres sympathized with his first baseman and told BNN reporters after the game, "Adrian played a whale of a game, but sometimes individual brilliance is not enough to win... baseball is a team sport... it takes more than just one player to win a game."
A. Gonzalez doubled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off S. Linebrink in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off B. Howry in the 9th.
In 11 games this season Gonzalez has compiled a .592 batting average with 29 hits and 6 home runs. He has also scored 12 times and knocked in 22 runs. | | Monday, April 14th, 2008: NL Star of the Week Announced It's always a thrill for fans of the team and students of the game alike when a superstar in the making shows what he's got.
