May was an outstanding month for Steinbach shortstop Luis Figueroa and it was capped off today with the announcement that he was named the winner of the Sub League 2 Batter of the Month award.
Figueroa compiled a .402 batting average and .442 on-base percentage for the month. In 29 games he piled up 49 hits, 2 home runs, 22 RBIs and 22 runs scored.
This season Figueroa is hitting .383 with 4 home runs. |
| Friday, May 18th, 2007: Volunteers Pitching Ravaged by Figueroa
It was a sensational day at the plate for Luis Figueroa as he led the charge to a 6-1 win over the Volunteers.
The Steinbach shortstop was pure misery for the Madison pitching staff. He left them shellshocked with 5 hits in 5 at-bats in an explosive display of hitting.
The manager for the Volunteers told BNN reporters after the game, "Figueroa put the ball into play. He really hit it hard. When you do that, you've got a pretty good chance to do some damage. And that's what happened. I feel like we threw some pretty good pitches, but he just put some good swings on the ball."
L. Figueroa hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.
This season Figueroa has hit 3 home runs and posted a .380 batting average. |
| Thursday, May 10th, 2007: Figueroa 5-6 for Tigers
5 times is a charm -- at least in the world of baseball. When a player gets 5 or more hits in a game, he is honored in the record book and the latest honoree is Luis Figueroa of the Steinbach Tigers. He tore up the Baton Rouge Golden Gators to the tune of 5 hits in 6 at-bats in the Steinbach 16-1 win today at Steinbach Grounds.
"Figueroa was a tough out today," the Baton Rouge manager said to the press in the postgame interview. "He hit some very good pitches with that quick bat of his. Not an easy out, that's for sure."
L. Figueroa hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit a two-run single in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
This year Figueroa is batting .362 with 50 hits and 2 home runs. He has scored 24 times and has batted in 24 runs. |
