 | Wednesday, April 18th, 2007: Saint Petersburg Halts Nieves's Hitting Steak Wil Nieves, catcher for the Salunga-Landisville Resolutes, gave it a good try, but his day in history finally came to an end, when he went hitless in 4 tries against the Saint Petersburg Tremors. Not only had they stopped his 21-game hitting streak, they had beaten Salunga-Landisville 5-4, too. Speaking with the media after the game, Nieves said, "Now that the streak has ended, I admit I will breathe a bit easier the next time I step up to bat. It was tough because I put a little pressure on myself. Now that it's over, I will definitely be a little bit looser at the plate." To date, Nieves has collected 12 hits for a .308 average. He has posted 3 home runs, scored 6 runs and driven in 7 runs. |
